Severe Thunderstorms Move Through Kansas City Area!

Severe thunderstorms moved through the Kansas City area on Friday night, bringing strong winds, hail, and the threat of tornadoes. The storms began to develop in the early evening hours and quickly intensified. By 9:00 p.m., a Tornado Warning was in effect for several counties in Kansas and Missouri.

The storms caused widespread damage. In Kansas City, Missouri, a tornado touched down near the airport, causing damage to homes and businesses. In Effingham, Kansas, a severe thunderstorm produced golf ball-sized hail, damaging vehicles and homes.

The storms also caused power outages in several areas. By 11:00 p.m., more than 10,000 customers were without power in the Kansas City area.

The National Weather Service is warning residents to stay safe and be aware of the weather conditions. If you see a tornado, take shelter immediately.

Here are some safety tips to follow during a severe thunderstorm:

  • Stay indoors and away from windows.
  • If you are outdoors, find shelter in a sturdy building or underground.
  • Avoid downed power lines and other hazards.
  • Listen to the radio or TV for updates on the weather.

The severe thunderstorms have moved out of the Kansas City area, but the threat of more storms remains. The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of thunderstorms for Saturday and Sunday.

If you are planning to be outdoors this weekend, be sure to check the weather forecast and be prepared for the possibility of storms.
